Competition rules

Effective Date: January 2026
Last Updated: October 6, 2026

1. Eligibility

Unless otherwise stated in the individual competition rules, competitions promoted by Selby Pulse Radio are open to residents of the United Kingdom.

Entrants must provide accurate information when entering a competition. Selby Pulse Radio reserves the right to request reasonable information to verify an entrant's eligibility.

Age Restrictions
Where an age restriction applies, the minimum age will be stated in the individual competition rules. Where a competition is specifically aimed at adults, entrants must be aged 18 or over.

Where a competition is open to people under 18, additional rules may apply, including requirements for parental or guardian consent.

Selby Pulse Radio Staff
Employees, directors, management committee members, volunteers, presenters and other people working directly for or on behalf of Selby Pulse Radio are not permitted to enter Selby Pulse Radio competitions.

This restriction applies whether the competition is promoted through the Selby Pulse Radio website, radio broadcasts, social media, messaging platforms, events or any other Selby Pulse Radio platform.

This rule is intended to help ensure competitions remain fair and avoid actual or perceived conflicts of interest.

Immediate Family Members
Immediate family members of Selby Pulse Radio staff may enter competitions, subject to the following conditions:

  • An immediate family member may win no more than one Selby Pulse Radio competition prize in any calendar month.

  • They must enter the competition independently.

  • They must not receive confidential competition information from a member of Selby Pulse Radio staff.

  • They must not receive advance information about competition questions, answers, winners or selection methods.

  • A member of Selby Pulse Radio staff must not enter a competition on behalf of an immediate family member.

  • A member of Selby Pulse Radio staff must not influence, interfere with or otherwise affect the selection of a family member as a winner.

For these Terms & Conditions, immediate family may include a spouse, civil partner, partner, parent, child, sibling or a person living in the same household.

Sponsor and Partner Competitions
Where a competition is run in partnership with a sponsor, business, charity or other organisation, employees and immediate family members of that organisation may be excluded from entering where this is stated in the individual competition rules.

Selby Pulse Radio reserves the right to verify the eligibility of any entrant or winner. If an entrant is found to have breached these Terms & Conditions, Selby Pulse Radio may disqualify the entrant and select another eligible winner where appropriate.

2. How to Enter

The method of entry will be stated in the individual competition promotion.

This may include:

  • Website entry forms

  • Email

  • Social media

  • Radio text or messaging services

  • Telephone

  • In-person entry

  • Other methods specifically stated by Selby Pulse Radio

Unless expressly stated otherwise, competitions are free to enter.

Only entries received through the specified entry method and before the stated closing time will be accepted.

Selby Pulse Radio is not responsible for entries that are lost, delayed, incomplete or not successfully received.

3. Competition Closing Date

Each competition will have a closing date and, where applicable, closing time.

Entries received after the closing date or time may not be accepted.

Selby Pulse Radio reserves the right to extend or amend a closing date where reasonably necessary, including because of technical problems, circumstances outside our control or other exceptional circumstances.

Any significant change will be communicated through the relevant competition channel where reasonably possible.

4. Selecting a Winner

Unless otherwise stated, winners will be selected fairly in accordance with the individual competition rules.

The method may include:

  • A random selection from eligible entries

  • A judged submission

  • A skill, knowledge or judgement-based competition

  • A specific answer or tie-break process

  • Another method clearly stated in the competition rules

Where a competition requires skill, knowledge or judgement, the competition will be operated in accordance with applicable legal requirements.

Selby Pulse Radio will not deliberately favour one eligible entrant over another.

5. Contacting the Winner

The winner will normally be contacted using the details provided when entering the competition.

The winner may be contacted by email, telephone, social media message, radio or another agreed communication method.

The winner may be given a reasonable period in which to respond.

If the winner cannot be contacted, fails to respond within the specified period, or is found to be ineligible, Selby Pulse Radio may select another eligible winner.

6. Prizes

Prize details will be stated in the individual competition promotion.

Unless otherwise stated:

  • Prizes are subject to availability.

  • Prizes are not transferable.

  • Prizes cannot normally be exchanged for cash.

  • Selby Pulse Radio reserves the right to provide a reasonable alternative prize of equal or greater value where the advertised prize becomes unavailable for reasons outside our control.

Where a prize is supplied by a sponsor or third party, the sponsor's own terms may also apply.

7. Sponsor Prizes

Some competitions may feature prizes supplied by local businesses, sponsors, community organisations or other partners.

Where applicable, the individual competition rules will identify the prize and may identify the organisation providing it.

Any collection, delivery, booking, expiry or redemption requirements imposed by the prize provider will be communicated where reasonably possible.

Selby Pulse Radio is not responsible for a sponsor's failure to honour a prize where the failure is outside Selby Pulse Radio's reasonable control.

8. Disqualification

Selby Pulse Radio reserves the right to disqualify an entrant where:

  • They have breached these Terms & Conditions.

  • They have provided false or misleading information.

  • They have used multiple accounts or identities where this is not permitted.

  • They have attempted to manipulate the competition.

  • They have used automated or fraudulent entry methods.

  • They have interfered with the operation of the competition.

  • They are not eligible to enter.

  • They are a prohibited Selby Pulse Radio staff member.

  • They have exceeded any stated entry limit.

  • They have otherwise acted unfairly or dishonestly.

Where an entrant is disqualified after being selected as a winner, Selby Pulse Radio may select another eligible winner.

9. Multiple Winners and Ties

Where multiple people are required to be selected as winners, the individual competition rules will explain how this will be handled.

If there is a tie, Selby Pulse Radio may use a reasonable tie-break method, including a further question, judging process or random selection where appropriate.

10. Under-18 Competitions

Where a competition is open to entrants under 18, the individual competition rules may include additional safeguards.

Selby Pulse Radio may require parental or guardian consent before awarding a prize to a person under 18.

Certain prizes may have their own age restrictions.

Selby Pulse Radio reserves the right to refuse or substitute a prize where the original prize cannot legally or safely be awarded to the winner.

11. Social Media Competitions

Some competitions may be promoted through platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok or other social media services.

Unless expressly stated otherwise:

  • The competition is operated by Selby Pulse Radio.

  • The social media platform is not responsible for administering the competition.

  • The social media platform does not sponsor, endorse or administer the competition.

  • Entrants release the relevant social media platform from responsibility for the competition to the extent permitted by law.

Entrants must also comply with the rules and terms of the relevant social media platform.

12. Personal Information

Information supplied when entering a competition will be used for the purposes of administering the competition and contacting the entrant or winner.

Where appropriate, information may also be used in accordance with the Selby Pulse Radio Privacy Policy.

Selby Pulse Radio will not normally publish unnecessary personal information about entrants.

If a winner's name, photograph or other information is to be used for publicity, this will be handled in accordance with the relevant competition rules and applicable privacy requirements.

13. Competition Scam & Security Warning

Selby Pulse Radio will never require a competition winner to provide confidential banking or security information in order to claim a prize.

Selby Pulse Radio will never ask a winner for:

  • Their online banking password

  • Their bank PIN

  • Their online banking login details

  • A one-time authentication code

  • A security code

  • Remote access to their computer or phone

  • Other confidential banking credentials

A legitimate prize claim should not require a winner to provide confidential banking login information.

If you receive a message claiming to be from Selby Pulse Radio and you are unsure whether it is genuine, do not provide personal or financial information.

Contact Selby Pulse Radio through an official communication channel to verify the message.

14. Payments and Donations

Unless expressly stated otherwise, Selby Pulse Radio competitions are free to enter.

Selby Pulse Radio may invite entrants to make a voluntary donation to support the station or a community project.

A voluntary donation:

  • Is not required to enter the competition.

  • Does not increase an entrant's chance of winning.

  • Does not provide additional competition entries unless expressly permitted by the individual competition rules.

  • Is entirely optional.

Selby Pulse Radio will not describe a payment as a "donation" where the payment is actually required in order to enter a competition.

Any competition involving paid entry will only be operated where the structure has been appropriately reviewed and is lawful.

Where a competition involves both paid and free entry routes, the relevant legal requirements will be considered and the free route will be clearly communicated.

Selby Pulse Radio reserves the right not to operate a paid-entry competition where we are not satisfied that the proposed arrangement is lawful.

15. Radio Competitions

Radio competitions may have additional rules because of the way they are conducted on air.

For example, entrants may be required to:

  • Call a specified number.

  • Send a message.

  • Answer a question.

  • Identify a song or sound.

  • Complete another task specified by the presenter.

The presenter may explain additional competition rules during the broadcast.

Where the presenter provides additional competition instructions, those instructions will apply alongside these Terms & Conditions.

If there is a conflict between these general Terms & Conditions and specific competition rules, the specific competition rules will normally apply to that competition.

16. Technical Problems

Selby Pulse Radio will make reasonable efforts to ensure competitions operate correctly.

However, Selby Pulse Radio cannot guarantee uninterrupted operation of websites, internet services, social media platforms, email systems, telephone systems or other communication services.

Selby Pulse Radio will not normally be responsible for entries lost or delayed because of technical problems outside our reasonable control.

Where a technical issue materially affects a competition, Selby Pulse Radio may take reasonable steps to correct the situation, including extending the closing date or rerunning the competition.

17. Changes to a Competition

Selby Pulse Radio reserves the right to amend, suspend or cancel a competition where circumstances outside our reasonable control make this necessary.

Examples may include:

  • Technical failures

  • Sponsor or prize availability issues

  • Errors in promotional material

  • Security concerns

  • Fraudulent activity

  • Changes in law or regulatory requirements

  • Circumstances that could compromise the fairness of the competition

Where reasonably possible, Selby Pulse Radio will communicate significant changes through the same channels used to promote the competition.

18. Winner Publicity

Subject to applicable privacy requirements and the individual competition rules, Selby Pulse Radio may announce the name or first name of a competition winner.

Where appropriate, Selby Pulse Radio may also request permission to use a winner's photograph, video, voice recording or testimonial for promotional purposes.

A winner will not normally be required to participate in publicity unless this has been clearly stated as part of the competition.

19. Responsibility and Liability

Selby Pulse Radio will take reasonable steps to operate competitions fairly and in accordance with these Terms & Conditions.

To the extent permitted by law, Selby Pulse Radio will not be responsible for:

  • Technical failures outside our reasonable control.

  • Internet or telecommunications failures.

  • Lost or delayed entries.

  • Third-party website or social media failures.

  • A prize being unavailable because of circumstances outside Selby Pulse Radio's control.

  • Loss or damage resulting from an entrant's misuse of a prize.

Nothing in these Terms & Conditions excludes or limits liability where doing so would be unlawful.

Where possible, please provide:

  • The name of the competition.

  • The date of the competition.

  • Details of your concern.
